Today I want to talk a bit about testimonial video introductions.
We’re not talking about some fancy graphic or logo introductions. We’re talkin’ about whether or not the person on the video should introduce themselves.
Or whether or not there should be an introductory question as the first thing the viewer sees.
A lot of the corporate-style testimonial videos you see will have an introduction.
And it’ll go a little something like…
Hi, my name is Jane Smith, and I’m a client of ABC fitness.
Or they’ll say…
Hi, I’m Jane Smith, an account executive for ABC Bank.
Then on the other side of it, you’ll see the “less professional” looking testimonials where it’s just a person talking about their experience right from the beginning.
No introduction, just jumping right into the testimonial.
But is it better that testimonial videos have introductions or not?
As usual…
It depends!!!
It depends on quite a few factors, such as your niche, audience, demographic, and what your audience is used to seeing from you.
But there is one way to tell for sure.
As the video explains, the simple way to do it is to record a testimonial video with some sort of introduction…
It could be like the corporate style mentioned above, or it could be a text question such as…
What was your life like before?
Once you have that video with an intro, pop it into your favorite ad platform.
Then you take that same testimonial video but REMOVE the introduction and run both of them for about a week.
Then look at the stats.
Especially view rates, engagement, and click-through rates, and whichever one is doing better will tell you which way to go.
And that’s it.
Now, for my clients and for my personal testimonial videos, I generally use introductions because that is what has worked.
But that doesn’t mean I do it every time.
In fact, if you’re trying to squeeze more information out of a testimonial video, simply cutting out an intro can get you an extra 3-5 seconds.
So as you can see, it all depends.
But if you do the split test mentioned above, that will give you a good idea of whether testimonial video introductions will work for you.
